Perched at the edge of a residential neighborhood in Kalispell, Montana, Valley View is a study in rhythmic geometry and material contrast. The residence is strategically oriented to capture views of the winding Whitefish River below, the expansive valley floor, and the jagged, snow-capped silhouettes of the nearby mountains. The architectural composition is defined by three distinct gable volumes that assert a bold, contemporary profile against the Montana sky. These primary forms are stitched together by low-slope connector volumes, creating an architectural cadence that breaks up the scale of the home to respect its residential context while maximizing interior transparency.

The material palette of the home utilizes deep obsidian tones on the gables. This is contrasted with a textured brick masonry on the connector volumes, anchoring the structure to the ridge and providing a tactile, earthy counterpoint to the dark wood. This materiality is further refined by the extensive use of divided light windows, which filter the intense Big Sky sunlight into a patterned glow. By blending the verticality of the peaks with the horizontality of the river, Valley View is a site-specific home that honors its rugged surroundings through refined, deliberate craft.
